T-Mobile Offers Netflix Subscription to Customers

Published on: 07 Sep, 2017

T-Mobile Us Inc. (NASDAQ: TMUS) will start including a Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) subscription in a move the company calls: Netflix On Us. Through the partnership with Netflix, customers who have two or more paid lines in an unlimited plan will receive the subscription with no additional charges at all. This just adds on yet another free customer appreciation service from the major mobile provider.

Starting September 12, T-Mobile ONE customers can activate their Netflix subscription for no charges at all. Netflix subscription currently cost about $10 while T-Mobile monthly unlimited plan for two costs roughly $100, according to CEO John Legere.

T-Mobile has been very aggressive with various types of promotions and offering free incentives to its customers with T-Mobile Tuesdays. T-Mobile Tuesdays offers many incentives such as sporting event tickets, food, movies, and many more, all without single charge just to show customer appreciation.

“This is the right move at the right time — for all the right reasons,” said Reed Hastings, co-founder and CEO of Netflix. “More and more fans are bingeing on mobile, so we’re bringing together Netflix’s award-winning TV shows and movies with T-Mobile’s award-winning, unlimited network.”

As the new iPhone release approaches, set for September 12, the same day T-Mobile will launch Netflix On Us, it can potentially add new customers to T-Mobile and generate iPhone sales. This also comes after AT&T’s plan that offers its customers with unlimited plans that include an HBO subscription, according to Bloomberg.

To add on even more to the free Netflix subscription, T-Mobile is hosting an event September 7, where customers answer questions from T-Mobile’s Twitter Inc (NYSE: TWTR) with quotes and other messages to enter into giveaways for smartphones, clothes, headphones, and other various products.

“While the carriers spend billions on their franken-strategies to cobble together carrier–cable–content mashups, the Un-carrier just leapfrogged them all by partnering with the best and giving it to customers at no extra charge. Because that’s what we always do. Give more to you without asking more from you.” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile.
